Enzo Ferrari was born in Modena in 1898 (it has been said he was born with petrol in his blood).
He became a driver for Alfa Romeo in 1924. Fast forward a century and we have not only cars but also high-end fragrances to remind us all of his entrepreneurial outlook on life and the success he enjoyed.
Ferrari is a name synonymous with speed, style and excitement. A name we know from watching Formula One racing on television, or from hearing the unmistakable roar of a Ferrari engine.
Behind Ferrari’s innovation and famously fast cars was a man with a strong will and with a great dream who fell in love with motor racing at the age of 10 years old when he witnessed his first ever race.
After serving in World War I and recovering from a serious illness, Enzo Ferrari was hired as a test driver for Construzioni Mecanniche Nazionale.
That same year, he debuted in his first race and in 1924 the Ferrari name was put on the radar when he won the Coppa Acerbo, driving an Alfa Romeo.
He built an amazing career as a racing driver for Alfa Romeo before building his own Ferrari enterprise. Through his newly established company, Enzo Ferrari built the ‘Spider’, a sports car powered by a 1500 cc 8-cylinder engine.
Called the 815, only two were constructed, one taking part in the 1940 Mille Miglia but his ambitions were put on hold with the outbreak of World War II and all motor racing came to halt.
When the war ended, he was able to launch what is truly considered to be the first Ferrari: the 125 S, with 1500 cc 12-cylinder engine.
In 1999 Ferrari decided to branch out and take a completely new direction into the world of perfume. The first perfume launched was Ferrari Black, which is an oriental composition with sweet notes and was an immediate commercial success.
While their cars are financially out of reach for most people, the fragrance gives the wearer the feeling of owning a piece of merchandise from a world-famous exclusive luxury brand.
In 2001 the company launched their second fragrance, another one for men.
The name of the woody and mossy scent is Ferrar No.1. In 2003 a new scent composed of elegant notes around an intense patchouli with the well thought out name of Ferrari Racing was launched.
In 2005 another men’s fragrance was launched called Passion.
The bottle and the outer carton were coloured in the well-known Ferrari-red. A limited edition with the name Unlimited was launched in the same year. The sweet, spicy and aromatic composition of Ferrari Extreme was created and launched in 2006.
As the previous limited edition proved to be successful, the men’s fragrance Ferrari Light Essence was launched and was the first one housed in a bottle that is neither red nor black. It was released to the market in a blue bottle with a blue outer carton in 2007.
In early 2009 Ferrari launched the supercar Scuderia Spider M16 and the woody, spicy and aromatic fragrance called Ferrari Uomo was also launched.
