Coty Inc is an American multinational beauty company which was founded in 1904 by Francois Coty. It also develops, manufactures, markets and distributes fragrances, cosmetics, skin care, nail care and both professional and retail hair care products.
As of 2018 Coty owned around 77 different brands.
Calvin Klein
Calvin Klein is known for their wonderful fragrances, like Obsession and Eternity. Their perfumes were once made by Calvin Klein Cosmetics Company (CKCC), until they sold the licensing agreements to Unilever in 2005. Now Coty Inc., a well-known cosmetics company of New York City has bought CK’s fragrance line up from them instead!
Coty is one of the world’s largest beauty companies and the largest fragrance company. As of mid 2018 the company had approximately 20,000 full time employees in 46 countries.
Coty’s executive offices are in London. The Consumer Beauty, Luxury and Professional Beauty head quarters are in New York City, Paris and Geneva.
Hugo Boss
Hugo Boss AG is a German-based luxury fashion company that sells clothing, accessories and fragrances around the world. Founded in 1920 by Hugo Schuhmacher and his wife Adolphe, their first location was at the Königstrasse 1890 street address in Metzingen with just under 3 employees including one tailor. The now iconic man’s fedora hat became an integral part of most every outfit for decades to come when it debuted on American soldiers during World War II which led to its widespread popularity among men soon after.
Hugo Boss has since expanded into many locations worldwide such as New York City where they opened up shop inside Manhattan’s Bloomingdale’s department store back in 1985
Coty’s first fragrance was launched in 1904 and was named La Rose Jacqueminot and started a sweeping trend throughout Paris and was the first example of a fine but affordable fragrance that would appeal to both the upper classes and to the less well off, changing the way scents were sold forever.
Coty opened their first store in 1908 in Paris and soon after began collaborating with a French glass designer to create custom fragrance bottles,
labels and other packaging materials, launching a new trend in mass-produced fragrance packaging. Coty also established a Perfume City in the suburbs of Paris to handle administration and fragrance production.
The company began its global expansion in the early 1910’s, first in London and New York. The company’s products gained more attention as World War 1 soldiers started returning from France with gifts for loved ones
They also started selling other products such as face and body powders and launched one of its most successful fragrances in 1917 – Chypre. Coty launched more than fifteen fragrances and expanded into Germany, Italy, Spain and Switzerland. Coty Inc was formed in New York in 1922 and became a publicly traded company in 1925.
Since then Coty has produced a wide range of beauty products and is known world wide but not only that they are committed to minimising environmental impact.
The company has entered into a long term partnership with the international advocacy group Global Citizen to tackle prejudice and discrimination based on gender, sexual orientation, disability or ethnicity and to promote self expression.
The company is also a member of the Roundtable for sustainable palm oil which is a very important category sourcing.
